Donald Salmon, Jr.

Donald R. Salmon, Jr., 77, of Decatur passed away Tuesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur. He was born Thursday, August 12, 1943, in Jay County. His parents were Donald R. Salmon, Sr. and Helen J. (Crawmer) Pyle. He was married Monday, December 5, 1966, in Holly Ridge, North Carolina to Beverly A. McCollum.
He attended New Corydon School. After attending school, he enlisted himself into the U.S. Marine Corp where he served in the Vietnam War from 1963-1967. Before moving to Decatur, he lived most of his life in Berne. He was a former mechanist at Micro Precision in Berne. He was a lifetime member of the Geneva V.F.W. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, watching John Wayne westerns and sitting outside on his patio.
He is survived by his wife of Decatur; son, Donald R. "Donny" (Linda) Salmon, III of Evansville; daughter, Donna R. (Adam) Boeglin of Bryant; two sisters, Norma Smitley of Dunkirk; and Jennifer Schisler of Pennville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, June Hough; Thelma Kongar; and Roberta Maloney; and brother, John Pyle.
Visitation will be Friday, July 9 from 2-6 p.m. at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva followed by military rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corp.
