DeWayne Nevil

DeWayne Nevil, 82, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born on Tuesday, April 6, 1937 in Geneva to Roy and Emma (Jack) Nevil. He was married in June of 1960 to Phyllis, and they shared 59 wonderful years together.
He joined the Marine Corp. in 1956 and was proud to serve his country. He then moved to Muncie in 1959. He attended Cammack United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his grandsons and spoke to them at least once a week. He loved fishing, square dancing and Forest Park Senior Center walking. He was an avid fan of IU and Purdue basketball and football and Butler basketball. He spent over 40 years working for Ball Corporation.
He is survived by his wife; son, Gary Nevil; daughter, Barbara (Steve) Cannaday; two grandchildren, John DeWayne (Zoe Almedia) Cannaday; Cory Ray (fiancé, Amanda Cote) Cannaday; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Larry Nevil; Ivan “Sonny” Nevil; Vernon Nevil; and Lester “Bud” Nevil; and two sisters, Marjorie “Ilene” Bowen; and Ardena Hunter.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service on Tuesday, January 7 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie.
Military honors will be conducted by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
