David Johnston

David L. Johnston, 75, of Fort Wayne passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020. He was born July 12, 1944, in Fort Wayne to Leonard E. and Agnes (Morand) Johnston.
He graduated in 1963 from Adams Central High School. He was a former member of the United Methodist Church of the Covenant in Fort Wayne and the Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe.
After a long career with Berne Furniture in Berne, he retired in 2010 from Canterbury Green Apartments after more than 20 years of service in the maintenance department. He also maintained the Camp McMillen Girl Scout site near Huntertown from 1982 to 1989. While living in Monroe, he enjoyed gardening and tending an apple orchard while raising his family. For many years, he enjoyed experimenting with cooking in the kitchen and hosting euchre card parties with family and friends. His love of cards continued in his later years with UNO being his favorite.
He is survived by his son, Christopher L. Johnston of Maricopa, Arizona; daughter, Nicole (Dave Jr.) Rosswurm of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Emily (Cody) Demske of Warsaw; Tyler Rosswurm of Fort Wayne; and Phillip Johnston of Maricopa, Arizona; ex-wife, Cheryl Johnston; two nephews; and numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Johnston; and companion of 20 years, Ann E. Shoaf.
The family would like to thank the staff of Visiting Angels & Canterbury Nursing and Rehab for providing care and support during his last years.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
