David J. Bowen, Sr.

David J. Bowen, Sr., 91, formerly of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at the home of his daughter, Lindsey Schwartz, in Geneva surrounded by loved ones. He was married on April 3, 1951 in Columbus Ohio to Barbara H. Bowen.

He graduated from Miami University in Oxford Ohio in 1952. He and his wife resided in Berne from 1967-1978, where he had had a successful insurance career. They were both members of the First Mennonite Church in Berne and participated in many community activities. He was an avid tennis player and was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his second wife, Mary Cloe of Sterling Heights, Michigan; his son, David J. "Rocky" (Bobbi) Bowen, Jr. of Vacaville, California; three daughters, Leslie P. Bowen of Salt Lake City, Utah; Lindsey P. (Kenneth) Schwartz of Geneva; and Alison "Sunny" (Dawn Roberts) Bowen of Savannah, Georgia; six grandchildren, Kristen P. (Ben Hirshey) Schwartz; K. Gabe (Marcie) Schwartz; David E. (Roxanne) Schwartz; D. J. (Heather Van Zile) Bowen, III; Luke Bowen; Ruth Bowen; and six great-grandchildren, Justin Schwartz; Evan Schwartz; Vaeda Schwartz; Sidney Schwartz; Isaiah Schwartz; and Avery Bowen.

A celebration of life service will be held the week of his birthday in June.
