Clair Christener

Clair D. Christener, 96, of Berne passed away Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2024, at Swiss Village in Berne surrounded by his family. He was born July 11, 1927, in Berne to Charles and F. Irene (Laisure) Christener. He was married Feb. 18, 1951, to Lanetta Bertsch.
He was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving in Panama. He was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne, where he had previously served as a deacon, on the Board of Consistory and as the church custodian. He was also a member of the Berne Conservation Club in Berne for many years.
He graduated from Monroe High School in 1945. He was employed at Moser Motors Sales in Berne as a mechanic for 64 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseshoe throwing. He was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Adams County Bowling Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his two sons, Sheldon (Judy) Christener of Decatur; and Kendric (Carolyn) Christener of Monroe; six grandchildren, Jeff Christener; Jessica (Eric) Sharp; Allison (Michael) Dunson; Ashley (Landon) House; Andrea (Mike) Trevino; and Kathryn Christener; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Sep. 22, 2015; daughter, Teresa Christener; brother, Carl Christener; and sister, Chrystal Hook.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral service Monday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at the Swiss Village Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Warren Willy. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund or the donor’s choice.
