Bill Patterson

Bill Patterson, 88, of Berne passed away at 7:09 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne. He was born Tuesday, July 19, 1932, in New Corydon to the late Charles Otto and Leola (Bryan) Patterson. He was married Saturday, December 15, 1951 to Alice Myers at Bethel Brethren Church east of Berne.
He was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic from 1951-1956. He was a member of the West Missionary Church in Berne for almost 50 years. He had been a mechanic all of his life and had worked at Liechty Motors 20 plus years and also at LICA for 20 plus years. He loved riding his motorcycle, watching Nascar racing, talking politics and watching basketball games. He was a Larry Bird fan. He and his wife enjoyed wintering in Florida and camping at Jellystone campground for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of Berne; son, Rick (Natalie) Patterson of Berne; two daughters, Carolyn Springer of Fort Wayne; and Rhonda Hayes of Berne; daughter-in-law, Kathie Patterson of Berne; sister, Delee Mattax of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald W. Patterson; and sisters, Delores Patch and Helen Joyce Bruner.
Visitation will take place from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 3 at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Monday, January 4 at West Missionary Church in Berne. Pastor Keith Rupp will officiate. Burial will follow in the Backesto Cemetery in Berne. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic everyone is asked to please practice social distancing. The family has requested that everyone wear a mask to the calling and service.
