Betty Young

Betty Marie Young, 89, of Berne passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Swiss Village in Berne where she had been a resident for 12 years. She was born on December 26, 1929 in Nappanee to John Mark and Ella Mabel (Brechbill) Blosser. She was married on September 1, 1950 to Rev. Donald R. Young.
She was a member of West Missionary Church in Berne. She was a homemaker and a dedicated pastor’s wife. She filled the role of pastor’s wife by being very active in many different aspects of church life. She followed and supported her husband’s ministry as he served congregations in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. She was one of the founding authors of the Missionary Cadets program. This group was instrumental in the creation and publication of a curriculum specific to the Missionary Church and its teachings. Children would earn badges and accomplishments based on attendance and participation in Wednesday evening church services.
Grandchildren and children in general were especially close to her heart. She would design opportunities for Bible school both at home and at church for children. Additionally, she loved to go camping, cooking, and also loved to entertain. Very often, missionaries and their families would be entertained and fed as they visited the area.
She is survived by two sons, Roger D. (Kim) Young of Berne; and Jay A. (Bobbie) Young of Bremen; daughter, Linda S. (Jeff) Hale of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren, Erica (Marcel) Guevara; Natalie Young; Corban (Mandy) Young; Caleb (Stephanie) Young; Levi (Abbey) Young; Lydia (Josh) Nichols; Esther Young; and Karlee Hale; and five great-grandchildren, Melody Guevara; Tessa Guevara; Eva Guevara; Ivy Young; and Teddy Young.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 5, 1997; three brothers, Paul Blosser; John Blosser; and Fred Blosser; and a sister, Rosemary Fry.
