Anna Neuenschwander

Anna Marie (Amstutz) Neuenschwander, 102, passed away peacefully April 12, 2021 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born March 3, 1919 to Frank and Naomi Amstutz of Berne.
She was valedictorian of her Berne French High School graduating class of 1937. She married Edward L. Neuenschwander January 25, 1942 in Berne. They celebrated 57 years together.
Before marriage, she worked for the Berne Witness and then for Dr. Amos Reusser. After marriage, she was a stay-at-home mother until all of her children were young adults. She was then employed by First Missionary Church in Fort Wayne on the nursery school education staff. She worked there until the nursery school ceased to exist and then worked in the child day care center at Lutheran Hospital.
She was a member of the First Missionary Church in Fort Wayne from 1949 until her move to Swiss Village in 2003. She was actively involved in many roles at the church, including singing with The Bonnet Singers — a group that sang old songs for audiences at many nursing homes, including Swiss Village. Since moving to Berne, she rejoined the First Mennonite Church — her church home from birth until 1949, when she and Edward moved to Fort Wayne.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had many friends whom she faithfully visited. She was a caregiver at heart, providing care to friends as they dealt with health issues. Since her move to Swiss Village, she was known as the visitor who held the hands of friends as they passed away from this life.
She is survived by her five children, Tom (Cheryl); Julie (Jerry); Margie (Terry); Alan (Jan); and Lynda (Dave); ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in September 1998; all her siblings; first child, Laura Lou in July 1943; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Neuenschwander.
Funeral service will be held at Covington Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17. Burial will be at Covington Gardens Cemetery in Fort Wayne. The service will be live streamed on the Zwick & Jahn Facebook page for those who are not able to attend.
