Anna Marie Haecker

Anna Marie Haecker, 107, of Berne passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born April 5, 1913, to Carl and Bertha (Liechty) Lehman. She was the youngest of six children and the last of her immediate family to survive. She was married March 22, 1933, to Robert Haecker.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Berne and also the Berne Garden Club. She was the first Welcome Wagon hostess in Berne. She was employed with Smith & Burry Law Firm in Decatur.
She especially clung to Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a time, and a time for every matter under heaven.”
She spent 50 plus summers vacationing at Lake Wawasee. She loved cooking for her family into her 90s. She was a gifted writer and a constant reader who always kept up on world events.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgia (Dr. Evan Lehman) Cook of Indianapolis; son, James (Brenda) Haecker of Marion; eight grandchildren, Shannon (James) Wallace of Indianapolis; Andrew Long of Naperville, Illinois; Amy (Jack) Hallaert; and Melinda (Steve) Connelly, both of Fort Wayne; Melissa (Greg) Shaffer of Woodburn; Charity Schabo of Marion; Robert (Shanna) Haecker of Arcadia; and Benji Haecker of Muncie; 23 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on December 14, 1964; son, John R. Haecker; great-grandson, Jaden Stephen Connelly; four brothers, Marcus (Estella) Lehman; Arthur (Tillie) Lehman; Ellis C. (Catherine) Lehman; and Lt. Col. Paul G. (Lois) Lehman; and sister, Arvilla (Ralph) Schindler.
Visitation will be one and a half hours prior to the 2:30 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, August 2 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Mike Wertenberger.
