Alice Stevens

Alice I. Stevens, 90, of Bluffton passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at her residence. She passed with a tear in her eye for leaving us and a smile for where she was going. She was born March 13, 1931, in Berne to Walter and Lenora (Yoss) Schug. She was married June 12, 1971, in Huntington to Charles O. Stevens.
She was a graduate of Berne High School class of 1949. She retired from Sola Basic in Ann Arbor, Michigan as an office manager after a stint at Memcor in Huntington. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
She was a loving mother and wife. She enjoyed having the family over and would roll out the red carpet with a beautiful feast placed in her finest dishes. She had a great love for music and art and was an avid fan of Andre Rieu. She published a book entitled, “Poetry with Art,” which included poems about her beloved children and grandchildren and their unique qualities. She enjoyed traveling and vacationed several times in Europe. She and her husband were avid fans of the University of Michigan football team and worked security prior to the games.
She is survived by her husband of Bluffton; son, Steven (Nan) Habegger of Mt Juliet, Tennessee; two daughters, Jane (Bob) Summers of Berne; and Carol (Steve) Counsell of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jack and Paul Schug; and sister, Shirley Sprunger.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 2 p.m. memorial service Saturday, August 28 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne. Burial will be at Washtenong Memorial Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse, Christian Care Retirement Center Good Samaritan Fund or Visiting Nurse Hospice Care of Fort Wayne.
