Thomas Rittmeyer

Thomas A. Rittmeyer, 69, of Decatur passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at his residence. He was born Sep. 18, 1953, in Rochelle, Illinois to Lester and Jean (Carlson) Rittmeyer. He was married Dec. 28, 1974, in Mt. Carroll, Illinois to Glenda Martin. She preceded him in death April 27, 1992. He was married May 21, 1994, at Decatur Church of God in Decatur to Molita Moorman.
He attended Winnebago High School, class of 1971 and Highland Jr. College in 1973. He was a member of Decatur Church of God. He greatly enjoyed his career with Schwan’s Home Delivery, especially getting to know his customers and families for 23 years.
He loved his wife and family and is remembered by many for his playful spirit and telling a good long story. He loved the Lord and enjoyed serving in the video department at church for many years and visiting shut-ins to take them video copies of the Sunday service. He greatly enjoyed gardening, woodworking and sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. He spent years volunteering at Woodcrest calling bingo for the residents. As a young man, he enjoyed farming and playing fast-pitch softball.
He is survived by his wife of Decatur; two daughters, Renee (Jeff) Magley of Greenwood; and Karissa (Brett) Hulse of Indianapolis; son, Rex (Sara) Patterson of Fort Wayne; sister, Carol Hogan of Loves Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Jacob and Emma Magley; Charlie and Julia Hulse; and Jordan, Brynn, Bristol and Karsyn Patterson.
Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 29 from 1-4 p.m. at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Jan. 30 at Decatur Church of God. Officiating will be Pastor Brent Doster and Pastor Jamie Conkling. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery at later date.
