Thomas Oliver

Thomas B. Oliver, 75, of Ohio City, Ohio passed away Friday, July 22, 2022, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born March 1, 1947, in Berne to Frederick Thames “Fritz” and Marlene (Townsend) Oliver. He was married June 9, 1984, to Joyce S. Cowens.
He served his country as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps and did a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post 508 in Rockford.
He attended the Olive Branch Church of God in Rockford. He was a member of the Willshire Sportsman’s Club and the St. Mary’s Bluecreek Conservation Club. He was also an avid golfer and was a member of the Hickory Sticks Golf Club and loved playing at many different courses.
He was the owner and operator, along with his wife Joyce of TJ’s Grocerette in Geneva, Rockford and Willshire until he retired and they sold the business in 2018.
He is survived by his wife of Ohio City, Ohio; two sons, Troy (Nicky) Oliver of Chickamauga, Georgia; and Tyler (Taylor) Oliver of Berne; two daughters, Shelley (Brian) Moorman; and Mandy (Josh) Harkless, both of Decatur; sister, Lynda Hunt of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, Derek (Sylvia) Roop; Lexi (Adam) Hagen; Chase (Jade) Roop; Braxton (Angelica) Roop; Emily and Madison Moorman; McCade Harner; Trever (Carli) Oliver; Kaelynn Oliver; Jaxon Harkless; Grant Harkless; Blakeley Oliver; and Wrenley Oliver; four great-grandchildren, Karver Roop; Dex Harner; Hadley Oliver; Walker Daniel; and two on the way.
Visitation will be Wednesday,  July 27 from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, July 28 from 3-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Friday, July 29 at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home in Decatur. Officiating will be chaplain Juan Loredo. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne. Military honors and graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Memorials may be made to pancreatic cancer research.
