Roger Flueckiger

Roger Lee Flueckiger, 96, of Berne passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born September 9, 1926, to Tilman and Clara (Gilliom) Flueckiger. He was married September 28, 1947, in Berne to Irene Jeanette Graber. She preceded him in death on November 21, 1985. He was married October 14, 1989, in Berne to Mary Mina (Gilliom) Zurcher. She preceded him in death March 23, 2022.
He grew up in Berne and graduated from Berne High School. He also graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne. He retired after 30 years from First Bank of Berne in 1992 as senior vice president. Prior to that, he was general manager at V.C. Graber Produce in Berne. He was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne where he served as an elder. Previously, he was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne.
He had a deep love for God and the church, and his faith influenced every aspect of his life. He shared the love of Christ through his words and his actions. He was generous in giving to organizations and to people in need of a helping hand and always taught and modeled that giving brought back the best returns. 
He was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with them. It brought him much joy to see his extended family grow over the years. He never met a stranger — he loved meeting new people and taking an interest in their lives.  
He loved sports of all kinds, especially baseball and basketball. He played high school sports for the Berne Bears and played regular pickup basketball games with members of the Berne Bears' best basketball teams.  He coached the V.C. Graber Cardinals Little League team for many years. In sports and in life, he was a great teacher and coach, always encouraging self-improvement and never giving up on anyone.
He is survived by four sons, Randy (Anne) Flueckiger of Georgetown, Texas; Mike (Joyce) Flueckiger of Atlanta, Georgia; Larry (Bette) Flueckiger of Greenwood; and R. Lee Flueckiger of Wolcottville; two daughters, Karen (Stephen) Intagliata of Springfield, Virginia; and Diane (Tom) Celie of Venice, Florida; 11 grandchildren, Tracy Trinkle; Scott (Dana) Trinkle; Jim (Jenny) Flueckiger; Peter (Rebecca) Flueckiger; Rachel (Matt) Angrisani; Eric (Melissa) Flueckiger; Evan (Laura) Flueckiger; Andrew (Diana) Intagliata; Lucas (Jill) Intagliata; Emily (Ryan) Frazier; and Todd (Beth) Celie; 17 great-grandchildren; stepson, Brian (Barbara) Zurcher of McKinney, Texas; stepdaughter Diane (Kevin) Affolder of Acworth, Georgia; five step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wallace Flueckiger; and sister, Kaye (Flueckiger) Cartwright. 
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, December 5 at Cross Community Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Stephen “Tig” Intagliata and Pastor Mike Wertenberger. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
