Robert Pyle

Robert C. Pyle, 96, of Berne went to be with his Lord Friday, November 11, 2022, at Swiss Village in Berne where he had been a resident for the past six years. He was born May 26, 1926, to John and Gwendolyn (Bryan) Pyle. He was married Sunday, May 25, 1947, to Frieda L. Nussbaum. A highlight of their 69 years of marriage was going to Camp Gilead, Polk City, Florida during the winter months and serving with others from Berne at the Children’s Bible Mission for 30 years.
He was a charter member of Grace Bible Church where he served on the church board as a trustee and enjoyed ushering for many years. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1944. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the South Pacific with the 25th Infantry Division and was awarded the combat infantry badge and the bronze star. He worked at the International Harvester Company for 32 years retiring in 1975. After retirement, he ran an air conditioning business servicing several implement dealers in Adams and Wells counties.
He is survived by his two daughters, Betty (Jerry) Burke; and Carolyn Moore and friend, Jim Cooper, all of Berne; son, David (Cindy) Pyle of Berne; daughter-in-law, Gayle Pyle of Roanoke; brother, Jim (Alice) Pyle of Fort Wayne; sister, Jenny Schisler of Pennville; nine grandchildren, Michele (Tim) LeFever; Michael (Becky) Burke; Kavan Pyle; Rob Moore; Ryan (Jill) Moore; Caleb Moore; Tyler (Emily) Pyle; Gabe (Krista) Pyle; and Stacey (Andrew) Smith; 20 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Judy Stauffer of Berne.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Richard W. Pyle; grandson, Jeffrey Pyle; son-in-law, James Moore; two brothers, Bill Pyle; and Johnny D. Pyle; and four sisters, Imogene Hart; Maxine Davis; Roberta Maloney; and Thelma Kongar.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 12 p.m. funeral service Friday, November 18 at Swiss Village Chapel, 1350 W. Main St., Berne. Masks are required during the viewing and service. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Gaskill. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army and the American Legion of Berne.
