Rebecca R. Werst

Rebecca R. “Becky” Werst, 88, of Berne passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on July 12, 1929 in Adams County to Alfred P. and Minnie E. (Burkhart) Hirschy. She was married on July 30, 1949 to Arthur Werst.

She was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne, where she was active in the life of the church and in their youth ministries for many years. She was a homemaker and had worked at CTS for 14 years and Wal-Mart for 18 years. She was an avid sports fan, especially for her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She loved her flowers and gardening. She lived 19 years at Goose Lake and attended Mt. Etna UMC in Columbia City where she started their Kids Club.

She is survived by her four sons, Gregory (Madonna) Werst of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Mark A. (Pam) Werst of Berne; Kent A. (Becky K.) Werst of Geneva; and Matthew T. (Glenda) Werst of Elkhart; two daughters, Ladonna (Ronald) Habegger of Berne; and Christina (Tim) Dellinger of Willshire, Ohio; two sisters, Ardena Lehman; and Arlene Sue (Lee) Sprunger, both of Berne; 26 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 20, 2009; four brothers, Melvin, Glen, Russel and Olen Hirschy; sister, Verna Mae; three grandsons; and a granddaughter.

Visitation was from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3 and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, December 4 at Swiss Village in Berne. Officiating was Pastor Chris Kruchkow. Burial was at MRE Cemetery in Berne.

Memorials may be made to Cross Community Church Student Underground (Youth) or Compassionate Ministries.
