Merlin Hedington

Merlin K. Hedington, 77, of Monroe, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, at his residence. He was born October 23, 1944, in Decatur to Carl and Dorothy (Hoffman) Hedington. He was married November 7, 1964, to Linda Rayl. They were married for 57 years.
His family grew up attending Springhill Missionary Church. He was a lifelong farmer. Farming was his passion, especially when he got to share his love and knowledge for it with his grandchildren. He often said “there is no greater pleasure than all of us working in the field together.” He was the most comfortable on his tractor seat in a hay field. His humble and kind ways harvested him many dear friends throughout his life. He held those friends dear to his heart right up to the last days before he went to his home with his family and friends in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife of Monroe; son, Doug (Lisa) Hedington of Portland; daughter, Nicole (Dean) Whitacre of Monroe; brother, Vernon Hedington of Decatur; and four grandchildren, Chase Hedington; and Eliza, Isaac and Zachary Whitacre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Luther Hedington; and sister, Madeline Hedington.
Private family visitation and services will be held at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home. Burial will be at Backesto (Springhill) Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Hull.
