Emma Schlagenhauf

Emma Naoma Schlagenhauf, 93, of Madison, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Arkansas to Arthur and Ida (Rovina) Rutledge. She was married to Bruce Schlagenhauf.
She was a hard worker her entire life. She was raised picking cotton from a young age, and when she left Arkansas, she went to school to become a beautician. She owned a beauty salon for years and was beloved by the women who came to see her. She also enjoyed sewing and she even helped build several of her homes. She could do it all.
More than anything she enjoyed her family, and once you met her, you were family. She stayed connected to relatives all over the world through letter writing and phone calls. She had a relative everywhere she went.
She is survived by two daughters, Deenah Marie (John) Givens; and Fay (Dan) Schwartz; two sons, Charles Douglas Edgar; and Mark (Linda) Schlagenhauf; daughter-in-law, Lisa Schlagenhauf; eight granddaughters, Nikki (James) Dunn; Jenna (Travis Blair) Givens; Jenny Schwartz; Angie (Mark) Frey; Amy Schwartz; Denise (Mike) Henry; Shelly (Bryan) Gerber; and Kylee Schlagenhauf; five grandsons, Ben (Ashley) Givens; Matthew (Anita) Schwartz; Craig (Brenda) Edgar; Adam (Ashby) Schlagenhauf; and Matt (Brynn) Schlagenhauf; sister-in-law, Chubb Armstrong; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Alan Schlagenhauf; and two grandsons, Phillip Schlagenhauf and Josh Schlagenhauf.
Memorial services will be held in Madison, Wisconsin and Geneva.
