Eleanor Flueckiger

Eleanor J. Flueckiger, 97, of Berne passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Berne to Alvin and Linda (Lehman) Kennel. She was married in 1946 to Carl Hult, and they shared many happy years together until his passing in 1974. In 1976, she found love again with Ray Reel, who sadly preceded her in death in 1986. Her heart remained open, and she married Paul Schug in 1989, who passed away in 1990. She later found companionship with Howard Flueckiger in 1997, and they enjoyed a loving marriage until his passing in March of 2021.
She was a longtime member of First Mennonite Church in Berne. She graduated from Monroe High School before pursuing a degree in nursing. Her commitment to service led her to the mission field in Mexico, where she dedicated two years of her life to helping others following the death of her first husband, Carl Hult, in 1974. Her love for her family was evident in her role as a devoted homemaker.
Throughout her life, she had the opportunity to live in various places around the world, including San Jose, California; Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico; Vienna, Austria; Rota, Spain; and Oak Ridge, Tennessee providing lifelong memories and stories.
She is survived by her three sons, Steven Hult of Berne; Terry (Debbie) Hult of Kalispell, Montana; and Pastor Eric (Jana) Hult of Redding California; sister, Marilyn Yoder of Berne; grandson, Kurtis Hult; granddaughter, Kristina (Greg) Bambino; and two great-grandchildren, Greyson Bambino; and Neva Bambino.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Howard Kennel; and sister, Anita Sprunger.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Thursday, May 25 at First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Linthicum. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in rural Berne.
