Duane Lehman

Duane Stanley Lehman, 91, was at home when he went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023. He was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Berne to Howard and Florence (Leichty) Lehman. He married Joann Weaver June 25, 2017.
He graduated in 1950 from Berne High School and in 1954 from Wheaton College. He earned a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Indiana University. He spent his career at Dow Chemical Company and lived in Midland, Michigan for over 50 years. He moved to Goshen in 2013. He actively served for many years at Midland Reformed Church and more recently at Sugar Grove Church in Goshen. He was very involved with Young Life, an international ministry dedicated to sharing the good news about Jesus Christ with middle school and high school kids, and organizations related to mental health, such as the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Tri-County Community Mental Health Board.
He built a cottage on Lake Missaukee in northern Michigan that held a special place in his heart as a gathering place for friends and family. He treasured many long-term relationships as a mentor, confidant and friend. He was physically active throughout his life and enjoyed participating in numerous sports, including basketball, baseball, windsurfing, sailing, motorcycling, tennis and pickleball. He took great delight in spending quality time with his children and grandchildren and left a lasting legacy founded on his Christian faith that will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife; children, Jean (Tony) Laughter of Grand Rapids, Michigan; David (Linda) Lehman of Plymouth, Minnesota; and Janice (David) Kay of Goshen; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Colleen Edmondson of Downey, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bonnie (Neff); and second wife, Dorothy (Mawhorter).
Visitation is from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 and will be followed by a celebration of life at Sugar Grove Church, 58512 Old County Road 17, Goshen, Indiana.
