Donald Hoeppner

Donald D. Hoeppner, 94, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022, and went to his heavenly home. He was born August 22, 1928, in Woodburn to Hilda (Waltke) Hoeppner. He was married in 1948 to Gladys Bosselman, who died unexpectedly in 1995. He was married to his second wife,  Elsie Shanks, in 2000. They have spent over 20 winters in Zephyrhills, Florida.
He worked for International Harvester for over 35 years in the I.T. department as a programmer, systems analyst and manager. He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Woodburn and served the church in various capacities. He also was a past board member of Woodburn Lutheran School. He coached youth sports with a passion for baseball. He enjoyed watching various sports, especially his favorite team, the San Francisco Giants. In his younger days, he was a very good athlete, especially at basketball and softball. He also loved playing a good game of horseshoes. He led Woodburn High School to its second ACAC basketball title in 1946 as leading scorer.
He is survived by three daughters, Connie (Rick) Smith of Harlan; Chris (Todd) Klopfenstein of Huntertown; and Cheryl (Gary) Hammond of Woodburn; two sons, Steve (Sally) Hoeppner of Berne; and Matt Hoeppner of Auburn; 11 grandchildren, Lucas, Keely (Bains), Marcus and Kurtis Smith; Lee, Scott and Brandon Hoeppner; Jay and Kyle Klopfenstein; and Trent and Trevor Hammond; 19 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Stemmler of New Haven; Elsie's children, Kari Shanks; and Darren (Rachel) Shanks; and Elsie's grandchild, Kennedy Varma, all of Canada.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gerald and Virgil Hoeppner.
Visitation will be Monday, October 24 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, October 25 at Christ Lutheran Church, 4412 Park St., Woodburn. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
