DeVona Amstutz

DeVona Elizabeth Amstutz, 96, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born April 3, 1927, to Noah L. and Barbara Habegger. She lived in Berne her entire life. After attending Berne grade school and high school, she married Dwight E. Amstutz, also of Berne, on June 27, 1948.   
Before his death in August of 2007, they enjoyed a retirement filled with travel to Switzerland, Hawaii, church missions and frequent trips to the West to visit family.
She was hardworking and spent years working with the public. She worked in the family business, Food Town, alongside her parents for four decades. After the closing of the grocery store, she became a sales rep/home party plan hostess for Tiara Glassware of Dunkirk. She was very successful and became widely known in the area for her knowledge and dedication.
Her faith in God was foremost in her daily living. She was a longtime member of First Missionary Church in Berne and participated in several church missions where she cooked and Dwight worked on the remodeling crew.
She loved her family and traveled to see them even into her nineties, especially enjoying her grandsons and great-granddaughters. She was affectionately known as GG as well as Grandma and Mom.                                   
She is survived by two daughters, Laura (Ron, deceased) Simmons of Lakewood, Colorado; and Denise Amstutz (Robert Gregory) of Kirkland, Washington; two grandsons, Nathan (Falon) Simmons of Lakewood, Colorado; and Elliott Gregory of Seattle, Washington; two great-granddaughters, Erin and Jill Simmons; sister-in-law, Marian (Art, deceased) Habegger of Berne; five nieces, Jennifer (Dean) Beer; and Maribeth (Jay) Smitley, both of Berne; Jama (Will) Mitchell of Akron, Ohio; Deb (Walter) Wilson of Chicago, Illinois; and Dawn (Keith) Wilson of Phoenix, Arizona; and nephew, Wayne Sprunger of Berne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Bette Wulliman; brother, Art Habegger; and beloved grandson, Jonathan M. Simmons.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at Swiss Village in Berne. After the service, First Missionary Church will be providing coffee, donuts and muffins.
