Denver Neuenschwander

Denver Neuenschwander, 86, of Berne passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023, surrounded by family at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born Sep. 7, 1937, at home in Wabash Township, Adams County to Amos and Lavina C. (Amstutz) Neuenschwander. He was married Dec. 28, 1968, in Schwenksville Pennsylvania to Bertha Mae Reiff.
He was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne, where he served the Lord for over 20 years as an usher and sang in the Men’s Chorus for three years under Dr. Freeman Burkhalter. He was a member of the Monroe Farm Bureau Co-Op and was the president for 10 years. He was also a member of the Berne Conservation Club.
He was a self-employed grain farmer. As a young man, he worked for Liechty Brothers in Berne. He then harvested grain in the West for nine years as a custom wheat cutter. He worked for two years in a Mennonite Mental Hospital in Kansas and worked part-time for 12 years for Swiss City Painter.
He enjoyed farming, traveling, trap shooting and playing pool. He spent many days in a cabin in Cocraine, Ontario, Canada where he liked to fish and hunt. But his first love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Dan (Damara) Neuenschwander of Berne; two daughters, Becky (Matt) Buckingham of Berne; and Sara Neuenschwander of Galloway, Ohio; brother, Lloyd (Carol) Neuenschwander of Berne; sister, Lorene (Dwight) Brenneman of Goshen; and eight grandchildren, Tyler (Kelsie) Neuenschwander; Andrea (Eli) Mosier; Derick Neuenschwander; Solomon Neuenschwander; Boaz Neuenschwander; Kait (Daniel) Steffen; Zane Davis; and Logan Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on Aug. 24, 2017; four brothers, Ellis, Joel, Ben and Willie Neuenschwander; and one sister, Estella Nussbaum.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 27 from 5-7 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, Nov. 28 at First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Linthicum. Burial will be at Berne Evangelical Mennonite Cemetery.
