David Lengerich

David E. Lengerich, 76, of Geneva passed away with his family by his side Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at 5:15 a.m. at his residence. He was born Sunday, April 6, 1947, in Decatur to Elmo Julius and Geneva I. (Smith) Lengerich. He was married Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the St. George’s Episcopal Church in Berne to Deborah K. McCullough.
He was a 1966 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He was a member of the St. George's Episcopal Church in Berne. He owned Davan in Berne and had also owned the Shell station in Berne. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 468 where he was a past commander and was a lifetime member of the Geneva VFW. He loved going on family vacations and also enjoyed going on trips with friends. He enjoyed playing cards and watching NASCAR races.

His favorite pastime was playing dominoes, and he had a passion for collecting coins, guns, and automobiles. Throughout the COVID lockdown, David and his devoted wife, Deb, stood by their neighbor, Jackie, sharing moments of joy through games, cups of coffee and watching church services together. Their enduring friendship, nurtured over years as neighbors, exemplified the true spirit of community and compassion.”
He will be forever missed by his wife of Geneva; three daughters, Tricia (Tim) Twitty of Linn Grove; Carmen “Camie” (Scott) McDaniel of Berne; and Tari J. “TJ” Lengerich of Decatur; four grandchildren, Nathan Twitty of Mitchell; Brock Twitty of Berne; Megan Armstrong of Portland; and Greysen Reed of Decatur; two sisters, Linda Fuhrman of Decatur; and Carol Ann (David) Bierschwale of Billings, Montana; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia A. (Augsburger) Lengerich; grandchild, Nykolas Lengerich; and sister, Mary Lou Gaerte.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 26 from 2-8 p.m. at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva. A service to celebrate his life will be Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor John McCullough. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Geneva VFW.
