Clark Stahly

Clark G. Stahly, 85, of Fort Wayne passed from this life Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023. He was born Sep. 25, 1937, in Adams County to Christian E. and Virginia F. (Thompson) Stahly. He was married for 63 years to Anita H. Smith of Decatur.
He grew up on a dairy farm and attended Hartford Center High School where he participated in basketball and baseball. He graduated from Ball State Teachers College in 1959 and taught and coached in the public schools of Rossville, Frankfort and Northwest Allen County for 40 years, retiring from Carroll High School in 1999. Among many coaching assignments, he served as basketball coach at Arcola High School and as baseball coach at Arcola and Carroll. He was proud to be part of an exceptional original faculty at Carroll that established a tradition of academic excellence. During retirement, he continued to teach driver education at various Fort Wayne schools for another decade.
He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and Salem United Church of Christ where he and his wife were actively involved for nearly 60 years. He was a proud and loving father and grandfather and treasured the vacations and other occasions that brought the family together. He enjoyed traveling, doing yard work, growing sunflowers and following sports on TV.
He is survived by his wife; son, Craig (Ruth) Stahly of West Lafayette; two daughters Karen (Jonathan) Wickert of Ames, Iowa; and Diane (Mark) Scales of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Christian Stahly; Catherine Stahly; Tessa Stahly; Rebecca Wickert; Luke Scales; and Savanna Scales; and two brothers, Dean W. Stahly of Berne; and John C. Stahly of rural Geneva.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sep. 7 from 3-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Sep. 8 at Salem United Church of Christ, 2401 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
