Mary Jane Smith

Mary Jane Kuhn-Smith was called to her eternal heavenly home. Her 79 years of life began with the sunrise on March 21, 1939 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Wheeler and Esther L. (Jones) Brooks. Her sunset was Tuesday, June 19, 2018. She was married to Orla L. Kuhn with whom she had six children. Then in 1980, she married Marion “Pud” Smith, who preceded her in death.

She attended Jefferson High School, and in 1982, she graduated from Ivy Tech with a nursing degree. She worked at Swiss Village for 20-plus years, and she took such pride in her work loving those she cared for. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching IU basketball, Indianapolis Colts, tending to her many flowers, and sewing and cooking for her family.

She is survived by four daughters, Rebecca (Glen) Agler of Evansville; Deborah (Jeff) Moser of Mesa, Arkansas; Regina Sue Reed of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and Jennifer (David) Haman of Unionville, Tennessee; two sons, Steve (Kimmy) Kuhn of Geneva; and Micah (Vickie) Kuhn of Decatur; brother, Kinsey (Suzy) Brooks of Berne; two sisters, Wanda Brown of Decatur; and Judy Nussbaum of Fort Wayne; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; six step-children; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, David W. Brooks.

Visitation will be four hours prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, June 23 at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Anita Rediger. Burial will be at Springhill (Backesto) Cemetery in rural Berne.
