William Hartman

William “Bill” Hartman, 78, of Bluffton passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Ossian Health Care & Rehabilitation. He was born on December 10, 1938 in Wells County to Kenneth and Pauline (Brewster) Hartman. He was married on May 23, 1959 in Bluffton to Virginia L. Payne.

He graduated from Berne French High School in 1957. He worked for 30 years at International Harvester, which was later known as Navistar. He retired from Navistar in 1992. For many years, he managed the Wells County Gun Club and was the former president of the club. He was also in the Army Reserves. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed gardening, genealogy, and playing pool at Christian Care. He enjoyed shooting trap and skeet shooting. He raised pheasants for many years and enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his daughter, Gail (Steve) Gronau of Fort Wayne; son, Scott A. Hartman of Gas City; four brothers, Steve (Karen) Hartman of Montpelier; Raymond (Chris) Hartman of Petroleum; John (Patsy) Hartman of Antwerp, Ohio; and Charles Hartman of Florida; sister, Mary Jo Schmidt of Bluffton; grandson, Kyle Beers; and great-granddaughter, Zada Ford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on July 11, 2003; three brothers, Robert, Daniel and David Hartman; sister, Delane Harned; and grandson, Gavin Beers.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8 and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, December 9 at Goodwin - Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton. Burial will be at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton.
