Norman Haines

Norman Haines, 85, of Berne passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, December 2, 2017. He was born on June 30, 1932 at home to Chester and Arba (Ray) Haines. He was married on June 21, 1958 at his Uncle Bob’s parsonage to Doris Liechty. He loved his wife with a deep love.

He graduated in the top 10 percent of his class of 10 at Jefferson High School. He was a star basketball player and loved to reminisce.

After working a short time at General Electric and Central Soya, he started his own Millwright business, Haines Engineering, which is now being run by his two sons, Lyle and Tom.

He was a member of New Corydon Bible Church, where he was actively involved and loved to serve. He taught Sunday school for many years. He was a very dedicated and passionate man. He always gave 110 percent. He was a skilled metalworker, machinist, and inventor and was never afraid of heights. Besides his love to work, he also loved to fish, garden, and farm. He loved to ride his golf cart with his wife and his dog. He was an avid IU basketball fan. His highlight of the summer was to go to the same lake cottage and fish, which he did for over 55 years, enjoying the family. “Bud” was the biggest prankster and teaser, in full operation until­ the day he died.

He is survived by two sons, Lyle (Kristy) Haines; and Thomas (Crystal) Haines; two daughters, Linda Glessner; and Sandy (Mike) Christner; sister, Harriett Simmons of Columbia, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren, Natalie (Dustin) Mann; Ben Haines; Joshua (Michaela) Cisney; Corey (Sarah) Cisney; Kylie Cisney; Holly Glessner; Kyle Glessner; Scott Glessner; Courtney Haines; Kara (Cody) Lehman; Morgan (John) Neuenschwander; and Dylan Christner; and six great-grandchildren, Braylynn Cover; Camden Genth; Hayes Neuenschwander; Ransom Cisney; Hedia Cisney; and Savannah Glessner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Andy Haines; and Eric Haines; two brothers, Lester Haines; and Walter Haines; and sister, Marilyn Cory.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5 at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, December 6 at West Missionary Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Pat Young. Burial will be at Springhill Cemetery in Berne.
