Norbert J. Kohnen

Norbert J. Kohnen, 95, of Celina, Ohio passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Celina Manor. He was born on February 1, 1921 in Mercer County, Ohio to Leo and Frances (Nieport) Kohnen. He was married on May 30, 1942 to Mary Evelyn Meier.

After attending school in St. Henry, Ohio, he served with the U.S. Army under General Patton during WWII. He was a life member of St. Marys V.F.W. Post #9289. He had worked at the Amstutz Feed Mill & Hatchery in Celina, Ohio; Superior Coach in Lima, Ohio; and Goodyear in St. Marys, Ohio; and was a self-employed poultry and grain farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Celina, Ohio.

He is survived by three daughters, Karen (Kirk) Habegger of Decatur; Marilyn Reser of Lima, Ohio; and Patricia (Tom) McDermitt of Celina, Ohio; two sons, Ronald (Karen) Kohnen; and Timothy (fiancée Tracy Lautzenheiser) Kohnen, both of Celina, Ohio; sister, Rosemary Wendel of Wapakoneta, Ohio; 19 grandchildren, Kathie Kruse; Kristan Nussbaum; Kevin Habegger; Shane, Sean and Amy Reser; Jeremy and Jordan Mihm; Heather Hoffman; Jim McDermitt; Jaime Bergman; Seth, Corey, Jonathan and Wesley Kohnen; Lindsey Fullenkamp; Taylor and Ryan Lautzenheiser; and Beth Link; and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on November 29, 2015; three brothers, Tony (Flora) Kohnen; Charlie (Esther) Kohnen; and Bernard Kohnen in infancy; two sisters, Sally (Ott) Dorsten; and Loretta (“T”) Dorsten; and brother-in-law, Louis Wendel.

Visitation was from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17 and 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18 at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Celina, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18 at Immaculate Conception Church in Celina, Ohio. Officiating was Father Ken Alt, C.PP.S. Burial followed at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina, Ohio. Military graveside rites were conducted by Celina V.F.W. Post #5713 and American Legion Post #210.
