Gyneth M. Luginbill

Gyneth M. Luginbill, 92, of Berne passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on October 15, 1923 to Vilas and Mary (Depp) Schindler. She was married on May 27, 1945 to Dr. Howard Luginbill.

A native of Berne, she graduated from Manchester College. She and her husband were members of First Missionary Church of Berne, Faith Missionary Church of Indianapolis, and Grace Church of Noblesville. They returned to Swiss Village in their retirement years. Besides enjoying music, she loved to read and spend summers in Oden, Michigan, surrounded by family.

Music was the joy of her life. She worked as a music teacher at Southport School in Indianapolis, directed music at Moody's Women's Retreats and Brown County Women's Retreats, and always had a song to sing. Residents of Berne and Indianapolis, where they resided for 34 years, may remember her featured solos in Handel's Messiah concerts.

In the words of Psalm 121, which served as a family passage, she kept her eyes lifted to Heaven and her faith in “the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.” She has joined the heavenly chorus “from this day forth, and even forever.”

She is survived by her husband; four sons, David (Judy) Luginbill of Des Moines, Iowa; Bob (Meg) Luginbill; and John (Kim) Luginbill, both of Indianapolis; and Tom (Karen) Luginbill of Lake Forest, Illinois; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Schindler; and sister, Betty Habegger.

Visitation will follow the 1:00 p.m. memorial service on Saturday, July 9 at the Swiss Village Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor David Rodriguez and Pastor Dathen Foust. Burial will be at the MRE Cemetery in Berne.

Memorials may be made to the Swiss Village Samaritan Fund or the First Missionary Church.
