Gene Bluhm

Gene R. Bluhm, 81, of Monroe, died Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born on December 5, 1935 in Adams County to Roger and Erline (Stucky) Bluhm. He married Elaine Freels on June 5, 1954. 

He was a member of the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. He worked as an upholsterer for Berne Furniture for 24 years and also owned and operated Bluhm Upholstery. 

He is survived by his wife of Berne; four children, Jan (Sue) Bluhm of Decatur; Janie (Rod) Lautzenheiser, and Jason (Angie) Bluhm, both of Berne; and Jeff (Dana) Bluhm of Monroe; two brothers, John (Sonja) Bluhm of Monroe; and Ben (Sue) Bluhm of Berne; sister-in-law, Barb (Paul) Lehman of Monroe; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Garry Bluhm. 

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18 at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren with calling one hour prior. Pastor Jay Carter will officiate. Burial will take place in Pleasant Dale Church Cemetery.
